XiamenUniversitywas founded in 1921 by the well-known patriotic overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee, the first university inChinato be founded by an overseas Chinese. It is a key comprehensive university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education ofChina, a first-class university with extensive international influence and is ranked in the top 20 of the over 2,000 universities and colleges inChina. The University is located in southeastChina, lying between wooded hills and the sea, and well known for its garden-like campus inChina.

3. Application procedures
(1). Online application
Applicants should first make online application at

(2). Submission of application documents
Applicants should send by post the application form generated automatically after online application and other required application documents to the Admissions Office by July 1, 2012. The office will not deal with application documents which arrive after the deadline.

4. Application documents
Applicants must provide copy of the following materials completed truly and correctly :
(1). Application Form for International Students, which should be completed in Chinese or English and printed out after online application.
(2). Copy of bachelor's degree. Applicants who are currently studying at university should provide study certificate. Certificate in languages other than Chinese or English must have notarized translation into Chinese or English attached.
Note: Applicants with study certificate should submit notarized copy of bachelor's degree to the Admissions Office before registration time, otherwise will automatically have their enrollment qualification withdrawn.
(3). Academic transcripts during undergraduate study. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must have notarized translations into Chinese or English attached.
(4). Study or research plan (minimum 1,000 words) in Chinese or English.
(5). Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by professors or associate professors.
(6). Photocopy of Chinese (HSK) or English Proficiency Certificate or medium of instruction certificate.
(7). Photocopy of valid foreign passport.
(8). Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form （ click to download ） completed in Chinese or English. (Please keep the original. ）
(9). Statement of Financial Support (click to download). The applicants must have sufficient funds to cover all tuition fees, accommodation and living expenses.
Note: Please submit all the required materials. The office will not deal with an incomplete set of application documents. Application documents above will not return to applicants whether they are admitted or not.
5. Academic programmes
(1). Chinese-medium master's programmes
Chinese proficiency requirement
Applicants for humanities, economics, management, law and arts need to have Chinese proficiency of new HSK level 5(or HSK level 6) or above; Applicants for sciences should have new HSK level 4 (or HSK level 3) or above. Students whose courses are mainly taught in Chinese during university study are exempt from this requirement but a medium of instruction certificate should be attached.
2). English-medium master's programmes
As a way of enhancing the internationalization of the University, XMU has launched eleven Master's programmes for outstanding international students. The programmes are taught in English with two years duration and aim at fostering talented international students with both professional competence and knowledge of Chinese culture and society.

English proficiency requirement
Applicants should present a TOEFL certificate with 80 points or above, or an IELTS certificate with grade 6.0 or above, or other certificate of English proficiency from an approved test. Native English speakers and applicants whose university courses are taught in English are exempt from this requirement, but a medium of instruction certificate should be attached.
6. Length of programme, duration of study and conferring of degree
· Length of English-medium master's programmes: 2 years;
Length of MTCSOL: 2 years;
Length of other master's programmes: 3 years.
· Duration of study: A maximum of five years for all master's programmes.
· Conferring of degree: Students will be conferred master's degree and awarded graduation certificate after they fulfill the credit requirements, complete graduation thesis and complete their degree requirements in the stipulated length.
Application documents will be forwarded to relevant colleges or schools for final academic review. Admission decisions will be made considering the applicants' academic performance and overall quality. Applicants who need to attend interviews or take tests will be informed in advance.
The University will send out the Admission Notice within one month after the announcement of the admission result. Applicants can log into the online application system ( http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn/application ) to find out the result and detailed information regarding the sending of the admission package.

10. Living expenses
(1). Accommodation fee (excluding electricity and water charges)
① On-campus accommodation:
Students fromCollegeofLife Sciences,MedicalCollege,SchoolofPharmaceutical Science,SchoolofPublic Health,CollegeofOceanand Earth Science, College of the Environment and Ecology,InstituteofEnergyare accommodated on Xiang'an campus. Master's students live in double rooms with the accommodation fee of 1600 RMB per capita per year.
Students of other colleges are accommodated in overseas student apartments onXiamenmain campus. The accommodation fee ranges from 750-900 RMB per capita per month.
Every room is fully-equipped with modern facilities, including separate bathroom, telephone, air conditioner, Internet access point, water heater and safe.

② . Off-campus accommodation: Students can choose to rent off-campus apartments and the monthly rental fee is around 1,500 RMB per room.

(3) Sino-American Cultural Exchange Scholarship
This program was launched by the Ministry of Education in 2011 and plans to finance American students for degrees studies. The scholarship provides full funds for master's or doctoral candidates fromAmericaadmitted by the Chinese universities under the program.

(4)XiamenUniversityScholarships for New International Students
The University offers scholarships for excellent degree-study applicants The recipients will have their tuition fees covered, up to a maximum of 3 years for a doctoral candidate, 2 -3 years for a Master's degree candidate and 4-5 years for a Bachelor's degree candidate. Meanwhile, the University is going to provide living allowances for excellent postgraduate candidates. The recipients' academic performance will be assessed each year and only those achieving the required standard will have their scholarship renewed for the following year.
