Xiamen University was founded in 1921 by the well-known patriotic overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee, the first university inChinato be founded by an overseas Chinese. It is a key comprehensive university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education ofChina, a first-class university with extensive international influence and is ranked in the top 20 of the over 2,000 universities and colleges inChina. The University is located in southeastChina, lying between wooded hills and the sea, and well known for its garden-like campus in China.
Xiamen University has a strong team of academic and administrative staff, making it possible to provide a full range of educational programmes. ⑴. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens between 18-30 years old with good health and a valid passport;
Note: According to the latest notice from the Ministry of Education, as from 2010, applicants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who have emigrated abroad should present a foreign passport valid for no less than four years with a record of having been resident abroad for at least two of the last four years up to April 30,2012. Nine months of residence abroad will be taken as one year for visa purposes.
⑵. Applicants should have a high school diploma with good academic performance.

3. Application procedures
Applicants should first make online application at http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn/application
▲ Online application is compulsory for successful application. The office will not deal with the application materials if applicants don't finish the online application.
⑵ . Submission of application documents
Applicants should send by post the application form generated automatically after online application and other required application documents to the Admissions Office by July 1, 2012. The office will not deal with application documents which arrive after the deadline.

4. Application documents
Applicants must provide copy of the following materials completed truly and correctly:
(1). Application Form for International Students, which should be completed in Chinese or English and printed out after successful online application.
(2). Copy of high school diploma. Applicants who are currently studying at high school should provide study certificate. Diploma or certificate in languages other than Chinese or English must have notarized translation into Chinese or English attached.
Note: Applicants with study certificate should submit notarized copy of high school diploma to Admissions Office before the registration time, otherwise will automatically have their enrollment qualification withdrawn.
(3). Academic transcripts during high school study. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must have notarized translations into Chinese or English attached.
(4). Letter of recommendation in Chinese or English from applicants' high school.
(5). Copy of Chinese (HSK) or English Proficiency Certificate or medium of instruction certificate.
(6). Copy of valid foreign passport.
Note: Applicants, who come under the first eligibility given in the note, should also present a photocopy of valid passport for no less than 4 years, visa record of having been resident abroad for at least 2 of the last four years and certificate of the cancellation of their registered permanent residence in China in addition to the required application documents.
(7). Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (click to download) completed in Chinese or English. (Please keep the original.)
(8). Statement of Financial Support (click to download). The applicants must have sufficient funds to cover all tuition fees, accommodation and living expenses.
(9). Applicants applying for Architecture and Artistic Design should have professional background in art and are required to submit their artworks. Applicants applying for Music should have professional background in music and are required to attend the interview conducted by the University.
(10). Other supporting documents including awards, internships certificates, which will be highly considered.
Note: Please submit all the required materials. The office will not deal with an incomplete set of application documents. Application documents above will not return to applicants whether they are admitted or not.
5. Academic programmes
XiamenUniversityadopts diversified talent cultivation modes. Applicants can select up to three programme preferences and the second and third preference will automatically be considered.
(1). Chinese-medium Undergraduate Programmes
★ Chinese proficiency requirement
Applicants for humanities, economics, management, law and arts need to have Chinese proficiency of new HSK level 5(or HSK level 6) or above; Applicants for sciences should have new HSK level 4 (or HSK level 3) or above. Students whose courses are mainly taught in Chinese during high school study are exempt from this requirement, but a medium of instruction certificate should be attached.
(2). English-medium Undergraduate Programme
Bachelor of Economics
Note: Economics is a key discipline in the University. The programme will be taught by a team of highly-qualified staff with original English textbooks.
★English proficiency requirement
Applicants should present a TOEFL certificate with 80 points or above, or an IELTS certificate with grade 6.0 or above, or other certificate of English proficiency from an approved test. Native English speakers and applicants whose high school courses are taught in English are exempt from this requirement, but a medium of instruction certificate should be attached.
6. Length of programme, duration of study and conferring of degree
· Length of undergraduate programmes: 4-5 years.
· Duration of study: A maximum of six years for four-year undergraduate programmes; A maximum of seven years for five-year undergraduate programmes.
· Conferring of degree: Students will be conferred bachelor's degree and awarded graduation certificate after they fulfill the credit requirements, complete graduation thesis and complete their degree requirements in the stipulated length.
Admission decisions will be made considering the applicants' academic
performance, overall quality and programme preferences. Applicants who need to attend interviews or take tests will be informed in advance.
The University will send out the Admission Notice within one month after the announcement of the admission result. Applicants can log into the online application system ( http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn/application ) to check the result and detailed information regarding the sending of the admission package.

8. Application fee: 400 RMB (submit during online application and will not be refunded.)
9. Tuition fee
(1) Chinese-medium Programmes
• Humanities: 18,000 RMB/year;
• Traditional Chinese Medicine: 18,400 RMB/year;
• Sciences, Economics, Management, Law, Medicine, Arts: 20,000 RMB/ year;
(2) English-medium Programmes: 26,000RMB/year;
10. Living expenses
(1) Accommodation fee (excluding electricity and water charges) :
① . On-campus accommodation:
Students fromCollegeofLife Sciences,MedicalCollege,SchoolofPharmaceutical Science,SchoolofPublic Health,CollegeofOceanand Earth Science, College of the Environment and Ecology,InstituteofEnergyare accommodated on Xiang'an campus. Undergraduate students live in four-person rooms with the accommodation fee of 1200 RMB per capita per year.
Students of other colleges are accommodated in overseas student apartments onXiamenmain campus. The accommodation fee ranges from 240-750 RMB per capita per month.
Every room is fully-equipped with modern facilities, including separate bathroom, telephone, air conditioner, Internet access point, water heater and safe.

②. Off-campus accommodation: Students can choose to rent off-campus apartments and the monthly rental fee is around 1,500 RMB per room.
(2) Living expenses: Around 800-1,000 RMB/month
11. Scholarship programmes
(1) Chinese Government Scholarship
Applicants shall apply to Chinese diplomatic missions or dispatching authorities between January and April every year. Applicants may refer to the above authorities for application deadlines.

(2)Xiamen University Scholarship
The University offers scholarships for excellent applicants. The recipients will have their tuition fees covered, up to a maximum of 3 years for a doctoral candidate, 2-3 years for a Master's degree candidate and 4-5 years for a Bachelor's degree candidate. Meanwhile, the University is going to provide living allowances for excellent postgraduate candidates. The recipients' academic performance will be assessed each year and only those achieving the required standard will have their scholarship renewed for the following year.
