On September 26, the fourth China-Arab States University Presidents Forum was held at Amman, capital of Jordan. Around 300 representatives from 32 Chinese universities and over 50 Arabian universities in 16 Arab States participated in the two-day forum. Xiamen University (XMU) Vice President Dr. Wu Daguang attended the forum.
Officials addressing the opening ceremony of the forum included Dr. Adnan Badran, former Prime Minister ofJordan; Dr. Wajih Owais, Jordan’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Dr. Sultan Aladwan, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities; and Mr. Pan Weifang, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan.
Under the theme of “Consolidating the Long-standing China-Arab Friendship and Strengthen Mutually Beneficial Cooperation”, attendees exchanged views on the topics of “Enhancing Dialogue and Cooperation between Chinese and Arab Universities”, “Academic Cooperation between Chinese and Arab Universities in the field of Higher Education and Vocational Education”, “Best Practice for Cooperation between Chinese and Arab Universities”, “Exchanges of Teachers and Students between China and Arab States”, “Cooperation between Chinese and Arab Universities in the field of Scientific Research”, and so forth.
Speaking on behalf of XMU at the forum, Vice President Wu made a presentation on the establishment of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM). He invited Arab students to come to XMUM for further study, since Malaysia, as a multi-cultural country, was one of the most favored destinations for overseas-bound Arab students. Later, the XMU delegation attended the China-Arab Higher Education Fair.
The China-Arab States University Presidents Forum has been an annual event since 2011, contributing significantly to the promotion of China-Arab exchanges and cooperation in higher education and China’s implementation of the “One Belt One Road” Initiative. With growing influence, the Forum has become a very important vehicle for dialogue and cooperation between China and Arab States in higher education.
XMUM President Dr. Wang Ruifang and staff members of the XMUM Office of International Cooperation and Exchange were also present at the forum.
