How to apply for Exchange Programmes (For International Students)
1. Eligibility
Applicants must be international students from the sister universities of Xiamen University (including those from the sister universities in Hong Kong , Macao and Taiwan ).

Categories of student:
General Advanced Scholar (undergraduates and postgraduate students),
Senior Advanced Scholar (doctoral students)
Length of Programme: half a year to one year

Spring semester: Oct. 1—Dec. 15
Autumn semester: Feb. 15—June 1
3. Application Procedures
1) Online application
Applicants should make online application at http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn/application
Online application is necessary. Application form will be generated automatically only after successful online application. Download and print the form. The office will not deal with the application materials if applicants don't finish the online application.
2) Submission of application documents
Make the online application
Application materials sent by post should reach the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange of Xiamen University before the application deadline.

4. Application Materials
1. Application Form for International Students, which should be completed in Chinese or English and printed out after successful online application.
2. Recommendation letter by the sister university.
3. Photocopy of transcripts in Chinese or English.
4. A study or research plan in Chinese or English (minimum 800 words).
5. Photocopy of valid passport.
6. Photocopy of Chinese (HSK) or English Proficiency Certificate.
5. Academic Programmes
Exchange students can select language courses, undergraduate, master, and doctoral courses in terms of their personal requirements and language proficiency.
1. Chinese Language Study
Exchange students who can't speak Chinese or are not adapted to the courses taught in Chinese are suggested to choose the language programme in Overseas Education College .
2. Chinese-medium Programmes
Xiamen University offers 62 undergraduate programmes, 215 master's programmes, 140 doctoral programmes, and most of the programmes are taught in Chinese.

Chinese Proficiency Requirements: Applicants for humanities, Economics, Management, Law and Arts should present the HSK level 6 (or new HSK level 5) or above; Applicants for sciences should get HSK level 3(or new HSK level 4) or above. Students whose courses are taught mainly in Chinese during college study are exempt from this requirement.
3. English-medium Programmes
1 ) International Postgraduate Programmes
Xiamen University has launched 10 International Master's Programmes for international students. All these courses under the programmes are taught in English and are aimed at cultivating high-level international specialists who combine professional expertise with a thorough knowledge of Chinese society and culture.
★ Senior undergraduate exchange students and postgraduate exchange students can be admitted to such programmes after they pass the review.
2) Doctoral Programmes taught in English
The university has a team of highly-qualified staff, many of them with doctorates from overseas universities. Doctoral supervisors in 36 doctoral programmes are competent to guide international students in English.
★ Applicants with a master degree or doctoral students can be admitted to such programmes after they pass the review.
English Proficiency Requirements: TOEFL or IELTS with a minimum requirement of 80 points or above for New TOEFL, grade 6.0 or above for IELTS, or on presentation of a certificate from some other approved test of English proficiency. Native English speakers and applicants whose teaching language during undergraduate study is English are exempt from this requirement.

6. Accepting an offer
After recommended by the sister university's International Office, applicants should send application materials to Office of International Cooperation and Exchange of Xiamen University by post. Applicants who are admitted will receive their Admissions Notice and Visa Application Form (JW202) by the Admissions Office. The admission package will be sent through EMS to applicants or sister university's International Office.
Note: Applicants should log into the online application system timely to find out the result and detailed information regarding the sending of admission package.

7. Study expenses
The tuition fees for international exchange students from sister universities are free, but the application fee, residential fees and living fees should be paid by students themselves. If there are other treaties, follow the treaties' requirements.
1. Application fee: 400 RMB (submit during online application and will not be refunded.)
2. Residential fees: All the exchange students should live in the Overseas Student Dormitory of Xiamen University in Xiamen campus, each bed charge for 50-100 yuan per day. (Only standard rooms and four-bend rooms are available. Electricity and water fees are not covered.) Exchange students can also apply for living outside the university which costs about 1200-1500 RMB per month.

Reservations are not accepted. Please present your Admission Notice to check in.
3. Living expenses: about 800 RMB per month
8. Change exchange period
After exchange students handed the application materials or are accepted by our university, if there are some changes in their study plan and they need to change the exchange period (shorten or extend the study period), they should get the permission from their own university one month before the study begins. After the sister university sends the “permission letter” to our university's Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, our office will verify the materials and change the study period by certain procedure accordingly.
