Pre-admission notice

Application Guidelines for the Pre-Admission Letter

(For Candidates of Chinese Government Scholarship-Bilateral Program Only)

 

I. Eligibility

1. Application should meet the eligibility requirements given by the application guidelines for different degree programs.

2. Official candidates of the Chinese Government Scholarship-Bilateral Program, who are required to submit a pre-admission letter to the Chinese Embassy or dispatching authorities in their home country to complete their applications.

Note: Pre-admission letter is not required for applications for other scholarship programs.

II. Academic Programs

1. Chinese-medium programs.

Most programs are taught in Chinese at Xiamen University. Please refer to the Academic Programs section at https://admissions.xmu.edu.cn.

Note: For those who have not met the entry requirements of Chinese proficiency level and wish to take remedial Chinese courses before the major study, they should also present the HSK certificate when applying. For programs in the humanities, economics, management, law, arts and traditional Chinese medicine, a certificate of new HSK band 4 is required. For programs in sciences, engineering and medicine, a certificate of new HSK band 3 is required. Only by passing the required new HSK test within the first year and meeting the entry requirements of the relevant degree programs could they then start the major study.

2. English-medium programs.

Currently, the University offers 22 master’s programs and 43 doctoral programs in English. These programs are aimed at producing high-level international specialists with a solid professional foundation and a good understanding of the Chinese society and culture.

III. Application Period: February 1 to May 1, 2019.

IV. Application Procedures

1. Making Online Application: Applicants should first apply online at http://application.xmu.edu.cn, upload the application documents as per instructions, pay the application fee (RMB 400) and print out the XMU Application Form for International Students generated automatically after successful online application.

2. Sending Email: Applicants should email XMU Application Form for International Students, and Award Letter for the Chinese Government Scholarships Candidate to admissions@xmu.edu.cn, indicating Pre-Admission Letter Application for 2019 Chinese Government Scholarship-Bilateral Program in the subject line.

Note:

(1) Online application is mandatory. Applications with no online signing-up will not be considered.

(2) Incomplete applications or applications for other scholarship programs will not be considered.

V. Application Documents

Applicants must provide true and correct information in all application documents:

1. Degree Programs

(1) Award Letter for the Chinese Government Scholarships Candidate, issued by the Chinese Embassy or dispatching authorities in their home country, which can be submitted through the section of Supplementary Materials on the online application system.

2. Non-degree Chinese Language Program

Applicants shall choose their application category as General Scholar and academic program as Chinese Language under Overseas Education College.

(1) Award Letter for the Chinese Government Scholarships Candidate, issued by the Chinese Embassy or dispatching authorities in their home country, which can be submitted through the section of Supplementary Materials on the online application system.

(2) Highest Degree Certificate and Transcripts, bearing the stamp of the home institution.

(3) Study Plan (no less than 800 words; written in Chinese or English).

(4) HSK Certificate (If any).

(5) Front page of foreign passport (regular passport; valid through October 31, 2019).

(6) Foreigner Physical Examination Form (completed in Chinese or English; bearing the stamp of the hospital).

Note:

(1) All the application materials in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by the original copy and its notarized translation in Chinese or English. It is advised to have the original copy and its translation notarized at the Chinese Embassy in the applicant’s home country. Please stamp on the edges of all sheets with part of the impression on each sheet if the document consists of more than one page.

(2) Applicants are expected to submit a complete set of application materials and will be held accountable for the authenticity of their documents. Incomplete or forged materials will be rejected.

(3) In general, there is no need to mail original hard-copy materials through courier service. However, under extraordinary circumstances, the University reserves the rights to require applicants to mail original hard-copy documents for further review and identification. No application materials will be returned, regardless of the outcome of the application.

VI. Acceptance and Notification

Admission decisions will be made on the basis of the applicants’ academic performance, language proficiency, overall merits, research output and their prospective advisor’s comments and their program preference.

The University will notify applicants of the admission outcome via email around two weeks after receiving a complete set of documents. Successful applicants will receive a pre-admission letter by email.
