Application Guidelines for MOFCOM Scholarship, Xiamen University

 

I. Introduction

MOFCOM Scholarship is set up by Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China to further strengthen the communication and cooperation between China and other countries as well as to develop talents for developing countries. Starting from 2015, MOFCOM Scholarship mainly sponsors the young and the middle-aged talents from recipient countries to pursue their postgraduate degree education in China and entrusts China Scholarship Council to administer the Scholarship. Xiamen University is among the universities that recruit international students under this scholarship scheme.

 

II. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens from a developing country and be in good health.

2. Educational background and age limits:

(1) Master's degree programs: hold a bachelor's degree or above and be under the age of 45 when applying;

(2) Doctoral degree programs: hold a master's degree or above and be under the age of 45 when applying.

3. Meeting the English proficiency requirements of Xiamen University’s English-medium programs.

Note:

(1) If the number of students admitted to the master’s programs or doctoral program of Management Science and Technology offered by the School of Management is less than 5, the University will advise applicants to change their program choice.

IV. Duration of Scholarship

1. Master’s degree programs: 2 years;

2. Doctoral degree programs: 3-4 years.

Note: Scholarships recipients’ academic performance will be assessed each year and only those achieving the required standard will have their scholarship renewed for the following year.

 

V. Scholarships Coverage

1. Tuition fee;

2. Teaching material fee;

3. One-off resettlement fee (RMB 3,000);

4. On-campus accommodation fee;

5. Stipend: RMB 3,000 per month per master student, RMB 3,500 per month per PhD student;

6. Comprehensive medical insurance.

7. One-time round-trip international airfare for all the students (First time fly to China after enrollment, and Fly back to home country while graduation), and a maximum of “n-1” (“n” is for the length of schooling year which is set while the student was enrolled by the program) round-trip international airfares for home visits (one time per year set at the end of an academic year).

 

VI. Where & When to Apply

The Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office (ECCO) of the Chinese Embassy in your country will be open for application until 30th April.

 

VII.Application Procedures

1. Online application and upload all the required documents in Chinese or English:

(1) Application Form for MOFCOM Scholarship (Ensure you have both submitted it online and printed the hard copy via www.campuschina.org)

(2) Photocopy of highest diploma; Applicants for doctoral program should also present their bachelor’s degree certificates;

(3) Photocopy of academic transcripts; Applicants for doctoral program should present academic transcripts for both bachelor’s and master’s degree studies;

(4) A Study Plan or Research Proposal; Applicants for entry to the School of Economics, Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics or Gregory and Paula Chow Center for Economics Researchshould complete the attached Study Plan Form for Master’s Program Application or Study Plan Form for Doctoral Program Application.

(5) Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form;

(6) Photocopy of English proficiency (a TOEFL iBT certificate with a score of 80 or above, or an IELTS certificate with an overall score of 6.0 or above. Applicants who have taken all courses in English during their bachelor’s or master’s degree studies are exempt from this requirement, but a medium-of-instruction certificate from the University should be furnished. Native English speakers are exempt from this requirement.)

(7) Photocopy of a valid passport.

(8) CV.

2. Submission Offline:

(1) Submit all the application materials listed above in both hard copy and scanned copy to the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of Chinese Embassy before April 30.

(2) Submit a written request to the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of Chinese Embassy for an official recommendation letter and clearly state: Whether the applicant is willing to be considered for a similar program at other universities if the applied programs could not accept the applicant. Other special requests if any.

Note:

(1) All the documents to be submitted should be in Chinese or English. Otherwise, a notarized copy in Chinese or English is required.

(2) An original copy of degrees, transcripts, Foreigner Physical Examination Form and language certificates must be presented for on-site verification.

(3) Applicants will get back all the hard-copy materials, both original copies and photocopies from the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office. If admitted, they must take the documents to China and submit them to the University during on registration in early September.

 

VIII. Selection and Notification

China Scholarship Council will place each applicant in one university only based on their desired option and universities’ requirements. Xiamen University will conduct a comprehensive review on applicant’s academic record, language proficiency, overall merits, and research achievements. Scholarship winners will get the admission package from ECCO of the Chinese Embassy by the end of August.Registration should be completed within the designated timeframe specified in the Admission Notice.
